Swachhta Pledge:
On this occasion, staff took the 'Swachhta Shapath' to keep the institute, city, and country neat and clean. This pledge was administered in Hindi and English, in the presence of Dr.(Mrs.) Tara Satyavathi, Director, IIMR-Hyderabad. All employees of the institute enthusiastically participated in this event. On this occasion Director, IIMR stressed the importance of cleanliness to build a clean, hygienic, and healthy environment at the research fields and institute campus, and work areas.

Display of Banners:
• The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is the most significant cleanliness campaign by the Government of India.
• As per the Councils guidelines, to spread the message of Swachh Bharat, at ICAR- IIMR –Hyderabad banners were displayed at main entrance of the institute and prominent places in the Campus to evoke a sense of responsibility in staff, visitors and other citizens.
“SWACHHTA PAKHWADA” 2022
Swachhata Pakhwada started in April 2016 with the objective of bringing a fortnight of intense focus on the issues and practices of Swachhata.It is one of the most popular missions to which translates into Clean India Mission. This drive was formulated to cover all the cities and towns of India to make them clean. Responding to the Nation’s call by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ICAR- Indian Institute of Millets Research, Hyderabad has taken the lead in launching the “Swachhta Pakhwada 2022” in the campus. Swachhta pakhwada 2022 programme was conducted in the entire campus on 16th December 2022 by conducting Swachhta Pledge. The main objective of the programme was to create awareness about hygeine and cleanliness.Swachhata Pakhwada banners were displayed at the prominent places of the institute. The main event- Swachhta Pledge was conducted in campus on 16/12/2022, administered Swachhta Pledge by all the scientific, administrative and technical staff in the conference hall. The session began with an introduction to Swachhta Pakhwada, its importance, role of citizens and oath taking was delivered to all the participants. Oath was taken to maintain cleanliness all around and to achieve the objective of attaining a clean country and a clean world. These initiatives will encourage the participants to develop a sense of responsibility. Empasis was given upon the ways to dispose lab waste and farm waste and urged all to take responsibility at individual level to make the campus and labs clean.
Campus cleaning activities were takenup on 19th December 2022. Several identified places such as areas around guest house, gene bank, nutrihub, pathways, parking areas, around the buildings were cleaned. About 20 to 25 people participated in the event.
Nylon bags were collected from all the fields and field labs on 20 December 2022 and segregated into non-usable and reusable stock. Non-usable waste bags were collected at one place and discarded. The waste bins for wet and dry wastes were aggregated for placing at identified spots.
Off-campus cleaning activity as a part of Swachhta Pakhwada was organized at Bhavans School, NIRD Campus at Rajendranagar on 21 December 2022. The premises were cleaned of all the pebbles and unwanted items.
As a part of Swachhta Pakhwada 2022, PLANTATION OF SAPLINGS was taken up on 22nd December 2022 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan School, NIRD Campus, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. Further to the programme, road-map was also structured including identifying the area where planting of saplings to be done and type of saplings to be selected depending upon the present weather and soil conditions and appeal from 19-21 December 2022.
On 22nd December, from ICAR-IIMR SAO Smt Ritu Dalal, Scientists Dr. C. Aruna, Dr. P. Sanjana Reddy, Dr. Anuradha, Dr. Deepika, Farm In-charge Mr. Vilas and from School, Principal, Faculty and school Children of 10th Class participated in the event for “Plantation of saplings”.
Celebration of Kisan Diwas at IIMR promoted FPO in Karnataka
India is primarily an agriculture-based country; the national economy and citizens of India heavily depend on farmers to sustain the country’s development. Farmers are the driving force of the country’s economy and deserve to be honored. Hence, the birth anniversary of one of the great leaders in Indian history, Shri. Chaudhary Charan Singh is celebrated as Kisan Diwas in India. As he was himself from a small farmer’s family in Uttar Pradesh. Singh went on to become India’s fifth Prime Minister, setting a precedent for the reverence of farmers. This day aims to promote awareness of the importance of farmers and their valuable contribution to the overall social- and economic development of the nation. Swachata Pakhwada was also organized during this event to highlight the importance of cleanliness.At IIMR, the celebration of KISAN DIWAS, 2022 held virtually under the Chairmanship of Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare was attended by the Staff of ICAR-IIMR. Hon’ble Minister emphasised on millets forming an important component of diet and appreciated the efforts of millet scientists.
Kisan Diwas as a mark to give tribute to Shri. Chaudhary Charan Singh and as a way to respect the farmers of the country. Around 50 farmers from neighboring villages of FPO gathered to celebrate Kisan Diwas at Mudhol oilseeds and millets Farmer Producer Company, Mudhol promoted by ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research, Hyderabad. Initially, the directors and staff of FPO paid their respect to the photo of Shri. Chaudhary Charan Singh by offering flowers. Followed by, Mr. Bharath, represented IIMR during the occasion and spoke about the importance and objectives of celebration of Kisan Diwas in India and he also highlighted the importance of cleanliness and hygiene in the FPO office. He also motivated the farmers remembering the incredible contribution of farmers in ensuring food and nutritional security of the ever-growing population of the country and helping India in earning through export of food commodities and contributing to national GDP.
Mr. Sanjaysingh Rajput, CEO of the company addressed the gathering and created awareness on the importance of adopting collective approaches to harness the benefits of it. Further, he sought the help of the Board of Directors of the company to undertake shareholders drive to improve the authorized capital to initiate business in the days to come. To improve the income of the farmers growing oilseed crops in the region, FPO decided to establish oil extraction machine. Mr. Shivling Endegeri, the Accountant of the FPO proposed vote of thanks to gathered farmers, Board of Directors, Staff of FPO and IIMR. The program was coordinated by a team of scientists Drs Sangappa, Amasiddha, Anuradha, Deepika, Srividya and Malathi with the technical guidance from Dr. P Sanjana Reddy, Chairperson, Swachatha Pakhwada, ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad.
On 26thDecember, Field labs in N G P Rao crop improvement building contains field labs of all grain sorghum, forage sorghum,rabi sorghum, sweet sorghum,bajra and all small millets premises were cleaned. In this activity team of the program Dr Deepika , Sh. D.M Bahadure, Sh.Prashanth, Sh. Mantri Kumaraswamy, all contractual staffsof respective units and farm section labour had participated and made the program successful. On 27th December, areas around pot culture and the unused pots were cleaned.
Elocution competition
An elocution competition was held for the staff of ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research on 28.12.2022. The topic was ‘swachhta measures for fighting covid in work area’. Ten members participated in the elocution competition, and they described several measures to tackle the spread of covid 19 in the workplace. The speakers emphasized on the importance of personal hygiene, workplace sanitation, avoiding congregations, importance of proper ventilation and vaccination as well as measures to enhance individual immunity. The competition was organised by IIMR Scientists, Drs. Anuradha N, Jinu Jacob and Deepika C.Quiz competition
Quiz competition was held for the staff of ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research on 29.12.2022. Twenty members participated in the quiz competition, and questions on Swachhta and Covid 19 were covered. The competition was organised by IIMR Scientists, Dr. Srividya and Dr. Amasiddha.Painting competition for school children
As part of the Swachhta pakhwada activities at ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research, a painting competition was organised for the students of Springfield High School, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad on 30, December, 2022. A total of 31 students participated in the competition. The topics for the competition were ‘Swachhta at School’ for the students of class 6 & 7 and ‘Green city clean city’ for the students of class 8 & 9. All the students had actively participated in the competition. A small meeting was also organised including the school Principal and the participants. The Principal, IIMR Scientists, Drs. Anuradha and V M Malathi described the importance of Swachhta, especially in the post covid era. The students also shared their thoughts on keeping the surroundings clean."Swachhta Hi Seva” on September 27-29, 2018 at ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad. Total number of participants: 70
In compliance of the Council’s Circular F No.27(6)/2017-Cdn (Tech) dated Sept .10, 2018, "Swachhata Hi Seva" program was implemented at the ICAR- Indian Institute of Millets Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, TS. The SHS program was implemented both at IIMR regional station, Warangal and adopted village, Godamguda, Vikarabad dist., Telangana. The activities include cleaning and removal of parthenium plants, waste material, garbage lifting, etc. The farmers were taught on how to maintain the cleanliness by adopting best practices in the village. Samples of Nutri-cereals products were distributed to the farmers as a part of promotion of millets products in villages. About 70 members participated have actively participated in the event . The program was coordinated by Dr SS Rao Principal Scientist & Nodal officer , IIMR. The images of above program were presented below.

About 80 staff, farmers, have actively participated. The activities include cleaning IIMR campus area, parthenium removal, removal of garbage, etc. The program was coordinated by Dr SS Rao Principal Scientist & Nodal officer , IIMR. In compliance of the Council’s Circular F No.27(6)/2017-Cdn (Tech) dated Sept .10, 2018, "Swachhata Hi Seva" program was initiated at the ICAR- Indian Institute of Millets Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad,TS implemented the Swachhata Hi Seva program at IIMR, Hyderbad and adopted village Godamguda, Vikarabad district, Telangana. About 120 staff, farmers, have actively participated. The activities include cleaning of village panchayat area, IIMR campus area, parthenium removal, removal of garbage, etc. The program was coordinated by Dr SS Rao Principal Scientist and Nodal officer SBM

In compliance of the Council’s Circular F No.27(6)/2017-Cdn (Tech) dated Sept .10, 2018, "Swachhata Hi Seva" program was initiated at the ICAR- Indian Institute of Millets Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad,TS implemented the Swachhata Hi Seva program at IIMR Off-Season Nursery, Warangal Telangana. About 100 village farmers, staff from IIMR have participated. The activities include cleaning of village and campus roads , parthenium removal, removal of waste, etc. The program was coordinated by the Dr Rajendrakumar under supervision of SS Rao Principal Scientist & Nodal officer , IIMR. In compliance of the Council’s Circular F No.27(6)/2017-Cdn (Tech) dated Sept .10, 2018, "Swachhata Hi Seva" program was initiated at the ICAR- Indian Institute of Millets Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad,TS . Dr Vilas A Tonapi, Director, IIMR along with 100 staff members have participated. "Swachhta Hi Seva” on September 25, 2017 at ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad
In compliance of the Council’s Circular F No.21-46/2014-CDN (Vol.1) dated Sept .15, 2017, "Swachhata Hi Seva" a program on Samagra Swachhata- cleaning public places was organized at the Rajendrangar, e-seva centre and sub-registrar office areas. All the employees of IIMR had actively participated in campus cleaning, grass and hedges removal of e-seva centre area of Rajendranagar Municipality. The program was coordinated by the Dr SS Rao Principal Scientist &Nodal officer , IIMR under the overall guidance of Dr Vilas A Tonapi, Director, IIMR. In compliance of the Council’s Circular F No.21-46/2014-CDN (Vol.1) dated Sept .15, 2017, "Swachhata Hi Seva" a program on Samagra Swachhata Diwas was organized at the ICAR- Indian Institute of Millets Research, Hyderabad,TS . All the employees of IIMR had participated the campus cleaning including removing weeds, pruning hedges, cleaning pot culture areas, etc. The program was coordinated by the Dr SS Rao Principal Scientist & Nodal officer , IIMR under the overall guidance of Dr Vilas A Tonapi, Director, IIMR. Swachata special drive at Godamguda village Aug 23 , 2017
As per the ICAR circular F. NO 21-46/2014--CDN dated 22.10.2017 from Dy.Secretary (GAC), ICAR, New Delhi, IIMR organized special Swachchta Campaign on August 23, 2017 at Godamguda village, Vikarabad (mandal & District), Telangana state. The program was organized as a part of Swachhta cleanliness drive in the adopted village of IIMR, Hyderabad. Swachhta Pledge was administered by staff villagers followed by cleaning, garbage and Parthenium weed removal around gram panchayat office, temple and school premises and other localities in the Village.
About fifty persons from village including scientists from IIMR (Drs S.S.Rao, Ch. Shashidhar Reddy, B.Subbarayudu, P.Mukesh, R.Venkateswarlu, R.Swarna, C.Deepika, Jinu Jacob and Sooganna) participated in the cleanliness drive.
The scientists of IIMR advised the villagers about the importance of cleanliness in their compounds and public places in order to avoid the infectious / water / garbage borne diseases such as dengue, chikengunya, swine-flu, viral fever, etc. The progress of activity is depicted in the following images.

As per the ICAR circular ICAR D.O. letter No. 21(46)/2014--CDN dated 10.10.2016 received from Addl. Secretary, DARE, and Secretary, ICAR, New Delhi, we at IIMR organized special Swachchta Campaign on October 17, 2016 as a part of special Swachhta Pakhwada (16-30, October, 2016).
Swachhta Pledge was administered by all staff followed by cleaning around guesthouse, waste removal, and campus road cleaning. All staff of IIMR participated in the event. The program was implemented under overall guidance from Director, IIMR Dr Vilas A Tonapi and SAO and was coordinated by Dr SS Rao, Nodal Officer, SBM, IIMR, Hyderabad. As per the ICAR circular F No. 27 (6)/2016 Cdn. (Tech.), dated 29 Sept 2016 received from ICAR, New Delhi, we at IIMR organized special Swatchta Campaign on October 2, 2016 as a part of National Swachhta Mission commemorating the Mahatma Gandhi Jayanthi.
Swachhta Pledge was administered by all staff followed by main building roof waste removal, and campus cleaning with participation of all IIMR staff. The program was implemented under overall guidance from Director, IIMR Dr Vilas A Tonapi and SAO and was coordinated by Dr SS Rao, Nodal Officer, SBM, IIMR, Hyderabad. Activity: Special drive program on “Swachhta Pakhwara” on 31May 2016 at village Maharajpet (Vill), Shankarpally (Mandal), RR district. Telangana
- As per the ICAR circular DO No.Secy (DARE) & DG (ICAR)/2016/539/ dated 5 May, 2016, we at IIMR had organized special drive program on “Swachhta Pakhwara” on 16 -31May 2016. SBM organized with an objective of creating awareness on cleanliness at the village level combining technology transfer of millet crops for productivity increase and value addition.
- The programme was chaired by Gram Sarpanch Smt. Yadamma and MPTC Smt. Kavitha, Satyanarayana Reddy, Vice-president Shri. Ravi and VRO, Smt. Mahalakshmi and Scientist from IIMR Dr. Ch Shashidhar Reddy, were present.
- The programme was attended by 50 village farmers and local officials. Dr.Ch Shashidhar Reddy has advised the villagers to avail the processing machines for converting the millets grains at farm gate into value-added sorghum food products like flakes, multigrain Atta, Rawa, biscuits, vermicelli etc for getting 3 fold increases in price and household consumption for improving their health and increase their income as by selling surplus in market.
- Dr Reddy also sensitized the village farmers about the need for adopting improved kharif/rabi sorghum/millets HYV, crop management practices and Post Harvest Technologies for increasing the yields, improving health and earning profits.
- Agricultural Officers from Govt of Telangana have advised farmers on the need for soil based crop selection and soil test based fertilizers application, and govt is readily extending the soil health cards for higher crop yields.
- The local officials along with farmers participated in the cleanliness drive by cleaning the roads besides gram Panchayat office and other places in the village.
- The entire program was coordinated by Dr SS Rao, Nodal Officer, Swachha Bharat Mission, IIMR under the overall guidance of Dr Vilas A. Tonapi Director, IIMR, Hyderabad.

A. At IIMR , Hyderabad
In compliance of the Council’s Office Order No. GAC-21-46/2014-CDN dated December 3, 2014, Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) activities were organized at IIMR, Rajendrangar, Hyderabad on June 30, 2015.
All IIMR staff actively participated the SBM activities on campus garden cleaning, grass removal /pruning, hedge priming , etc. The cleaning and hedge pruning, grass cutting activities were organized on the lawn surrounded between Director’s building and Administrative bloc. The program was implemented by Dr S. Ravi Kumar (Chair), Officer In-charge (Farm Services), Vilas Aghav, FS, J Bhagavanthama and many farm section staff and DPLs under the overall coordination of Dr SS Rao, Nodal Officer, SBM, IIMR. B. At IIMR ,Regional Centre, Solapur, Maharashtra
In compliance of the Council’s Office Order No. GAC-21-46/2014-CDN dated December 3, 2014, Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) activities were organized at IIMR, Regional centre Solapur, Maharashtra on June 30, 2015.
All staff at IIMR Regional centre have actively participated the SBM activities on campus cleaning, grass removal, etc. The cleaning grass cutting activities were organized in the lawn surrounding main building. The program was implemented by Dr Prabhakar (Chair), Officer In-charge, and other staff members under the coordination of Dr SS Rao, Nodal Officer, SBM, IIMR. Progress of Swachh Bharat Mission at the Directorate of Sorghum Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad

Activity: Launching of Swachh Bharath Mission village adoption program/ mela at Maharajpet (Vill), Shankarpally (Mandal), RR district., Telangana
1. In compliance of the Council’s Office Order No. GAC-21-46/2014-CDN dated December 3, 2014, Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) village adoption program mela was organized at Maharajpet vill, Shankarpally Mandal; Ranga Reddy District on March 19, 2015
2. As approved by the ICAR and Director, Indian Institute of Millet Research (IIMR), Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) village adoption programme was organized at Maharajpet (village), Shankarpally (Mandal), Ranga Reddy District, TS on 19-March-2015 (10:30- 12.30 AM ). SBM organized with an objective of creating awareness on cleanliness at the village level combining technology transfer of millet crops for productivity increase and value addition.
3. The programme was well attended by over 50 farmers along with village administrative officials of Maharajpet which include Gram Sarpanch (Smt. Yadamma), MPTC member (Smt. Kavitha), Officials from Agriculture departments Soil testing Laboratory, Rajendranagar, Govt. of Telangana (Smt. P. Padmavathi, and Smt. N.N.V. Ratna and IIMR scientist (Drs. Ch Shashidhar Reddy, B.Subbarayudu, Rajendra Chapke, and P. Mukesh). The IIMR scientist conveyed the messages of Dr JV Patil, Director and Dr SS Rao, Nodal Officer about the purpose of integrating Swachh Bharat with technology transfer of millets at the village level by adopting Maharajpet village.
4. The Sarpanch and MPTC members have addressed on needs for transfer of Sorghum/ Millet Technology and expressed their happiness for taking adoption of their village under Swachh Bharath Mission. Dr. B. Subbarayudu, IIMR, spoke on stored grain pest management of food grains, improved cultivation practices of sorghum and its alternate uses and need for promotion of nutritiously rich millets to control diabetes and obesity. Dr Rayudu conveyed the message through print and electronic media such as 6TV, and Andhra Prabha.
5. Dr. Ch Shashidhar Reddy has advised the villagers to avail the processing machinery for converting sorghum to value-added sorghum food products like flakes, multigrain Atta, rawa, biscuits, vermicelli etc.
6. Dr. Rajendra Chapke and P. Mukesh have requested the farmers to tell the day to day problems faced in the village on sorghum technologies transfer etc. He informed that farmers can get more net income by following the advisories of IIMR Scientists on millet production techniques. Several food products prepared at IIMT were displayed at the venue for up-scaling.
7. Smt. P. Padmavathi, and Smt. N.N.V. Ratna Agricultural Officers from Govt of Telangana have advised farmers on the need for soil based crop selection and soil test based fertilizers application, and govt is readily extending the soil health cards for higher crop yields. They advised farmers to purchase Rythu Panchangam from Agricultural University and follow the package of practices. Through Swachh Bharath Mission a mass cleanliness drive was organized by IIMR scientist along with the villagers include sweeping of approach road of village Panchayath etc. The entire programme has been telecasted by electronic media 6 TV and print media Andhra Prabha on 20th March, 2015.

Activity: Lab cleaning and organizing
- In compliance of the Council’s Office Order No. GAC-21-46/2014-CDN dated December 3, 2014, Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) activities were organized at IIMR, Rajendrangar, Hyderabad, on 26 Feb. 2015.
- Many DSR staff attended the SBM worked on the Cleaning, up-keeping of instruments and organizing laboratories. The activity was continued for one week w.e.f. 26 Feb 2015.
- The program was coordinated by Drs CV Ratnavathi (Chair), KBRS Visarada, R Madhusudhana, Jinu Jacob, and Visala Devender.

In compliance of the Council’s Office Order No. GAC-21-46/2014-CDN dated December 3, 2014, Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) activities were organized at Directorate of Sorghum, Rajendrangar, Hyderabad, Telangana State on 19 Feb. 2015.
Many IIMR staff attended the SBM worked on the Cleaning/condemning old and unused IT related items
The IIMR staff will continue activity until 25 Feb 2015 on returning the old and unused IT related items to stores for further action. The program was coordinated by Dr V. Ravi Kumar Technical Officer under the overall guidance of Stores and Administrative Officers.

Activity: White washing and painting of office / lab buildings.
- In compliance of the Council’s Office Order No. GAC-21-46/2014-CDN dated December 3, 2014, Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) activities were organized at Directorate of Sorghum, Rajendrangar, Hyderabad, Telangana State on 12 Feb. 2015.
- All the DSR staff attended the SBM worked on the painting of farm section building walls and widows including scrapping and cleaning old paint, white washing etc.
There was greater interest among the participants to clean and paint the dilapidated old buildings at DSR. The program was coordinated by Dr K.Srinivasa Babu, Sr Scientist under the overall guidance of Dr SS Rao, Nodal Officer, SBM.

Activity : Guest House cleaning / management
- In compliance of the Council’s Office Order No. GAC-21-46/2014-CDN dated December 3, 2014, Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) activities were undertaken at Directorate of Sorghum, Rajendrangar, Hyderabad, TS on 5 Feb. 2015.
- All the DSR staff attended the SBM activities such as cleaning of guesthouse, sweeping of surroundings of guesthouse building, removing of junk/ metal/ left over construction materials in the guesthouse premises, etc.
- There was enthusiasm among the participants to clean the surroundings. The program was coordinated by Dr Sunil Gomashe, Dr Ganapathi, DSR under the overall guidance of Dr SS Rao, Nodal Officer, SBM.

Activity: Stores / Office inventory, weeding out old records, updating records / files, disposing of old and obsolete furniture.
- In compliance of the Council’s Office Order No. GAC-21-46/2014-CDN dated December 3, 2014, Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) activities were undertaken at Directorate of Sorghum, Rajendrangar, Hyderabad, TS on 29 Jan. 2015.
- All the DSR staff actively participated the SBM programs such as stores / Office cleaning, inventorying, weeding out old records, updating records/ files, disposing of old and obsolete furniture.
- An inventory was made on the old/ current stores materials/ files were to manage them properly. The program was coordinated by the AO and FAO, DSR under the overall guidance of Dr SS Rao, Nodal Officer, SBM..
Implementation progress of Swachh Bharat Mission at the Directorate of Sorghum Research, Hyderabad
In compliance of the Council’s Office Order No. GAC-21-46/2014-CDN dated December 3, 2014, Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) program started at the Directorate of Sorghum, Rajendrangar, Hyderabad, TS, on 2 October 2014. Dr J. V Patil, Director, DSR has inaugurated the SBM program. All the DSR staff joined the SBM program.
An Oath (Swachh Shapath) was taken by all staff of DSR on 2 October, 2014 followed by campus cleaning, removing unwanted items in the campus and garden. The program was coordinated by the AO, DSR.
Swachh Bharat Mission both annual and five year work-plans DSR were prepared and submitted to the ICAR. Further activities will continue as per action plans. Few images taken on this occasion are appended below.
